A dream vacation within reach

The Makarska Riviera, as a top tourist destination, is well-connected to the rest of Croatia and the world.
You can reach it via highway or the coastal road (D8), by air, or even by boat, which connects it with Split and Brač, making it an ideal base for short day trips to southern or northern Dalmatia.

What draws both international and local guests year after year is the wealth of attractions and activities this region offers. Even if you spend your entire vacation on the Riviera, there will still be at least one or two things you simply didn’t have time for.
So, if you’re looking for a dynamic vacation filled with a variety of activities—educational, sports-oriented, and relaxing—one thing is certain: the Riviera has it all!
Biokovo Mountain

The first natural landmark you’ll encounter upon arriving at the Riviera is the mountain and Biokovo Nature Park.
This mountain separates the coastal area from the Dalmatian hinterland and is one of the reasons why the Riviera itself is so "compressed" along the sea. Biokovo is part of the Dinaric mountain range, and its peak, Sveti Jure, at an elevation of 1762 meters, is one of the highest in Croatia.
An interesting feature is that you can reach the peak by car via the highest paved mountain road in Croatia or by bicycle as part of special routes organized from Makarska.
From Biokovo, you can enjoy a stunning view of the Brač Channel, the villages of the Makarska Riviera, and the surrounding mountains, offering a truly unique natural experience.
Skywalk Biokovo

One of the biggest tourist sensations since 2020 has been the skywalk on Biokovo.
If you’re brave enough, you’ll step onto the skywalk, beneath whose glass floor lies a 300-meter-deep abyss.
You can reach the entrance by car, and after passing through several checkpoints with a guide, you’ll arrive at the top within an hour.
Beaches created for relaxation, but also for recreation

Well, enough exploring—it’s time to relax and enjoy everything that makes the Riviera truly special.
The Riviera is home to numerous well-known beaches, such as those in Brela, Tučepi, and Baška Voda, but even in Makarska itself, you’ll find untouched, world-famous beaches.
Some of these include Buba Beach and Nugal, which was declared one of the most beautiful beaches in the world in 2019.
Nugal Beach is part of the Osejava forest park, which connects Makarska and Tučepi. Here, you can swim, cycle, or exercise while enjoying crystal-clear air, stunning views, and, most importantly, peace and relaxation.
For adventure seekers, rafting on the Cetina River is a must. It’s an adrenaline-filled experience suitable for all ages and is located not far from Makarska.
Before leaving, don’t miss the Brela Stone on Punta Ranta Beach in the village of Brela. This iconic stone emerges from the sea, with trees growing on it, making it a dominant symbol of the Makarska Riviera and an essential “check-point” for any true traveler.
While in Brela, be sure to visit other locations in the Podbiokovlje area, such as Tučepi or Baška Voda, which tell stories of bygone, romantic times.

The land of wine, olives, and song

This region in Croatia is renowned for its top-quality restaurants, taverns, and konobas that stretch across the 60-kilometer-long Riviera.
This comes as no surprise, given its centuries-old fishing and agricultural traditions, which have now become a hallmark of its tourism brand.
Local top-tier wine, prosciutto, cheese, fish, and olive oil have ranked among the world’s best for years, offering a unique gastronomic experience in this beautiful region. Be sure to try the renowned "black risotto," octopus, or meat cooked "under the bell," as well as other famous local specialties like prosciutto, cheese, and olive oil.

Makarska

The central spot on the Riviera is Makarska. Considering the green and blue hues radiating from its beaches, parks, and surrounding forest parks, this area truly deserves its reputation.
When visiting Makarska, we recommend stopping by the main square with St. Mark's Church and the statue of Andrija Kačić Miošić. Take a stroll along the Riva and the former longest street, Kalelarga, a true tourist haven where you can sample local delicacies and wine, buy the most beautiful souvenirs, and learn about life in ancient times, as ancient Greeks once inhabited this area.
The architecture is a mix of Venetian and Ottoman styles, characterized by classic Dalmatian stone houses built to withstand strong winds, as well as small shepherd houses, known as kažuni, which you might encounter while passing through Biokovo.
Some of these houses are even available for accommodation if you’re seeking an escape from crowds, stress, and daily routines.
Additionally, we recommend visiting the beautiful isolated peninsula of St. Peter, home to the namesake promenade, a small church, and a lighthouse, making it an ideal destination for a short day trip in nature.
The importance of tourism to the town is evident in the monument to tourists built in 2004, a result of a joint decision made by the locals and the community, located right on the Riva.
Brela

Alongside Makarska, Brela is considered one of the most iconic parts of the Makarska Riviera.
What makes this place so beloved among travelers is the combination of stunning surroundings, crystal-clear beaches stretching along a 6-kilometer-long promenade, and the romantic ambiance the entire town exudes during your stay.
In addition to the already mentioned Brela Rock, the most recognizable symbol of this town is Punta Rata Beach, consistently ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world. For over a decade, it has proudly held the "Blue Flag" award for its exceptionally clean sea and environment.
If you’re in Brela in June, don’t miss the event celebrating the raising of the Blue Flag! Alternatively, visit in early August when the town marks its municipal day and the feast of St. Stephen.
Beyond the beaches, be sure to explore centuries-old gastronomy rooted in agriculture, and discover historical landmarks such as the village of Škrabići, which features remnants from the Illyrian era.
Baška voda

"With the taste of the sea, with the taste of the mountains" is the motto of every resident of Baška Voda, perfectly describing the geographical, climatic, and even cultural position of this tourist gem located in the very heart of the Adriatic and the Makarska Riviera.
From a rural agricultural village in the past, Baška Voda has transformed into one of the top tourist destinations and a prime example of how tradition can merge with modernity, agriculture with gastronomy, and stunning sea views with a rich tourist offer to create a true travel story that attracts visitors of diverse preferences and interests.
The main attraction of this place is Nikolina Beach, with the nearby statue of Saint Nicholas, the town's patron saint.
This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean, having earned both the "Blue Flag" and the "Blue Flower" – awards for the most beautifully maintained beach in Croatia!
Among other landmarks you can explore in Baška Voda, we recommend the archaeological site Gradina near the freshwater spring, which marked the beginning of settlement in this area, the fountain and Dr. Fra Gabre Cvitanović Square, Veliki Mul, and Ključ Kuk – a natural attraction located near Krvavica Beach, all of which are iconic symbols of this vibrant town!
Tučepi

If you’re looking for a place to recharge your batteries and relax your body and soul, then Tučepi in the heart of the Makarska Riviera is an excellent choice for anyone seeking crystal-clear waters, stunning beaches, and, above all, a laid-back Dalmatian atmosphere where all your worries fade away.
Tučepi is located just a few kilometers from Makarska and is connected to Split, Omiš, and Dubrovnik with daily routes, making it an ideal destination for day trips.
Of course, besides traveling by car or public transport, you also have access to ferry, catamaran, and charter lines that can take you wherever you want in no time!
The most recognizable feature of Tučepi is its beach, which at 3 kilometers long is one of the longest beaches on the coast.
Tourism, along with a rich selection of accommodations, gourmet delicacies, and a mix of adventurous and family-friendly offerings, has made this place one of the most popular destinations in Croatia.
You can enjoy the sun and beaches all day, have Makarska at your fingertips for nightlife, and take part in activities like zip-lining, jet skiing, paragliding, or hiking on Biokovo, which appeal to sports enthusiasts and families alike.
Tučepi has a long history dating back to the Illyrian times, and there are local sites worth visiting.
These include the Church of St. George, built 700 years ago, the medieval Church of St. Anthony of Padua, and the remains of a fortress in Gornji Tučepi that protected locals from invaders.
Podgora

Podgora (Source: Canva)
Podgora has long held the title of the most beautiful destination on the Makarska Riviera.
And why wouldn’t it, with its ecologically pristine beaches, stunning sea, and proximity to Omiš, Split, and the islands of Brač and Hvar, making it an ideal spot for day trips, excursions, or renting a speedboat and enjoying the waves of the Adriatic Sea.
It is a paradise for families and outdoor enthusiasts: from various water activities to tennis courts, sports fields, kayaking, and scuba diving. During your stay in Podgora, you can tailor your vacation entirely to your wishes and interests.
This beautiful destination boasts more than 5 kilometers of crystal-clear beaches, with the most famous being Plišivac Beach and Garma Beach, located in a secluded cove where you can enjoy peace and tranquility far from crowds and stress.
But nature isn’t all Podgora has to offer: over 20 churches, including the stunning Iljak lighthouse with a chapel — one of the oldest on the Mediterranean, the medieval Church of St. Tekla, and the historic cores of Gornja and Donja Podgora, tell the story of the first settlers, their way of life, mindset, and architecture that shaped modern Podgora. These are just some of the landmarks to explore.
If you plan to visit in August, we recommend coming during the celebrations of St. Vincent, the town's patron saint, and Podgora Day in the latter half of the month — perfect for avoiding crowds and enjoying total peace and tranquility.
From outdoor activities to gastronomy and renowned wine tours, historical tours that let you experience the locals’ mentality, and learning local anecdotes like the story of Tekla, Podgora is a truly unique destination. Choosing this jewel of the Makarska Riviera will definitely be worth it!
Podaca

Podaca (Source: Canva)
Podaca is a destination on the Riviera ideal for day trips, enjoying a full day of swimming, and savoring delicious local authentic delicacies and wine.
Like every coastal village, Podaca is divided into the old, upper part, where remnants from the Roman and Illyrian periods can be found, and the lower part, where the local population lives across three hamlets, primarily engaging in tourism.
You can experience the warm hospitality and the beautiful historic ambiance of old Dalmatia by visiting some of the local taverns or konobas.
This area is home to several smaller archaeological sites dating back to the Stone Age, antiquity, and the Middle Ages, such as the tower in the old village that once served as defense against Ottoman attacks.
The population relocated from Upper Podaca to the coastal areas after the 1962 earthquake, which affected all the villages along the Riviera.
In Podaca, the old Croatian Church of St. John has been preserved, along with the graves of the Kačić noble family from the Middle Ages. However, the main attractions of this small village are the pebble beaches surrounded by centuries-old pine forests.
Some of the most notable are Ravanje, Podaca Beach, Kapeć, Lučica, and Podkapeć.
For a special experience, we recommend choosing accommodation in traditional Dalmatian houses for an authentic feel.
